Safe Cosmetics For Summer

May 3rd, 2008 by Blabber

It seems that eco-friendly cosmetics are in the forefront of this summer’s beauty plans. More and more companies are coming out with products that are environmentally safe with simple ingredients, but still remain fun and fabulous.

malkan.jpg“Less is better,” says Stacy Malkan (pictured left) co-founder of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. “Look for products with fewer synthetic chemicals, use fewer products overall, try to avoid synthetic fragrance and parabens …. It’s true that natural products tend to cost more, and also are not available everywhere…. But it’s also true that many of us spend a lot of money on beauty products of all types. If you start to simplify, you may find that you spend less money overall.”

The latest in eye makeup is undoubtedly blue mascara. Blue mascara can brighten blue eyes tremendously and they will make brown eyes pop! It’s also a fun new twist to your makeup style. The trick is to keep the rest of the eye makeup subtle.

Here are a few of our absolute faves of this season!

The Bob Is Back

January 17th, 2008 by Blabber

The latest hairstyle trend is the bob! It is a very sleek and sexy look and easy to maintain. Also, keeping your hair shorter is actually very good for your hair. If you’re looking for a new style for spring, the bob is definitely the way to go!

“The bob really comes back every couple of years, and it really is just a way of kind of cleaning house — like starting new but still (having) a great, feminine haircut,” says hairstylist Ken Paves. “And all the girls that are wearing it right now are wearing it to perfection, I believe. I think Rihanna’s hair is genius. I love Katie’s.”

This hot style works on most women. You just have to find the bob that works for your hair-type. Below we have listed a few popular bob styles to help you along the way.

The Concave Bob Hairstyle

The is the most popular bob right now, which Victoria Beckham is so elegantly sporting! It’s the shortest of all bobs and the front is usually a little longer than the back.

The Inverted Bob Hairstyle

The inverted bob is also very popular right now. It’s cut very short in the back and longer in the front. You could say it’s more of an extreme concave bob. This hairdo works for women with thin hair but also medium wavy. Singer Rihanna started this trendy hairstyle.

The Classic Bob Hairstyle

This bob looks fabulous on most women. Some women are also sporting this bob with bangs, which looks great. (Think Katie Holmes latest look.) The best thing about this bob is that it works on any type of hair, thick, wavy, thin or straight.

Here is a video of how a bob is cut.

Step Away Gloss, Here’s Lipstick!

January 7th, 2008 by Blabber

I adore lipglosses, but the latest in winter beauty is the matte lip. I have found some really great shades that you’re gonna love! They work for all skintones and look gorgeous on.

I always recommend opting for a more subtle eye makeup with a dark lip. For example, a soft beige shimmer on the eyelid and lots of black mascara looks amazing with a darker shade lipstick and it works for everyone.  Give it a try!

Purple Rain

We found a great article with Celebrity Makeup Artist Pati Dubroff on stltoday.com where she discusses the latest makeup trend…Purple! According to Dubroff, purple is the “it” color this season, but be careful how you apply it. She suggests a hint of purple on the eyelid, using a sheer wash of a pearlized lavender shadow. To compliment the purple eyes she suggests using a rosy beige color for the lips or be daring and trendy by applying a red lip!
